Sam Dyson
Sam Dyson is a recognized educator and non-profit leader in the field of connected learning. His current consulting work is equipping educators to put theory into practice with a Connected Learning Guide for practitioners. Previously, as director of the Hive Chicago Learning Network and co-founder of the Chicago Learning Exchange (CLX), he has led a city-wide professional learning community from an early-stage initiative to become an integral part of CLX, an established non-profit equipping more than 100 organization and 300 educators to expand out-of-school learning opportunities for more than 20,000 Chicago youth.
Prior to his connected learning work, he implemented targeted educational reforms on district-wide and neighborhood scales within the Chicago Public Schools and the Woodlawn community. His career includes astrophysics research and ten years teaching physics, for which he is a 2007 recipient of the Golden Apple award for excellence in teaching. He has a B.A. in Physics from Yale University and an M.Ed. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Connected learning has inspired Sam to put his own interest-driven learning into practice by pursuing deeper study and broader outreach in physics with the belief that all people deserve to have a personal encounter with the magic and mystery of the natural world.
